In autumn 2009 the Cuban capital La Havana will celebrate a feast of Chinese contemporary art with the opening of "Beijing - Havana: New Contemporary Chinese Art Revolution" exhibition at the Fine Arts Museum! 38 Chinese contemporary artists will exhibit together more than 50 artworks and will expose the Cuban public to a display of the new creativity from the east.

This first large-scale exhibition of Chinese art in Cuba will give the Cuban audience the opportunity to explore the wonders of Chinese contemporary art for the first time since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Cuba in the 1960. The exhibition will not only be the best way to give the Cuban people a magnificent point of view of the Chinese contemporary art, but at the same time will widen the enhance of the Chinese art on international contemporary art.

Since China's Reform and Open-up Policy in the 1980s, the Chinese society is moving towards the modernization, and China entered into an important pioneering era, what can be said about Chinese avant-garde art as well. Chinese contemporary artists moved forward from the academic period, and started to understand and to use western techniques and philosophies, as well as finding again their roots in China's social reality. This change led into a big change in the cultural life as well as to social and psychological changes. 30 years has passed since the establishment of the  New Wave Art 85’ movement and Chinese avant-garde artists continued to explore and to experiment various types of artistic languages, and to create an interesting discourse between different art schools, what lead us for today’s colourful face of Chinese contemporary art.

The “Beijing - Havana: New Contemporary Chinese Art Revolution” will assemble 38 of China's most representative contemporary artists, working in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, video, photography, and installation: Chang Xu Gong, Fang Lijun, Feng Zhengjie, Gao Yu, Guo Wei, Huang Yan, Li Ji, Li Lu Ming, Li Yongbin, Liu Wei, Lu Hao, Luo Brothers, Pan Dehai, Hung-Chih Peng, Qi Zhilong, Shao Fan, Shao Yinong & Mu Chen, Shi Jianmin, Sui Jianguo, Tang Zhigang, Wang Guangyi, Wang Jianwei, Wang Ningde, Wang Ziwei, Wei Guangqing, Weng Fen, Wu Mingzhong, Xu Yihui, Xue Song, Yang Qian, Yang Shaobin, Yin Chaoyang, Yue Minjun, Zhan Wang, Zhang Xiaogang, Zhong Biao, Zhu Wei, Zuoxiao Zuzhou. This exhibition is being organized in collaboration with the Fine Arts Museum in Cuba (MNBA) and the curator Xin Dong Cheng. Xin Dong Cheng has been responsible for discovering and working with the artists taking part in this exhibition over the last 20 years. Since the 90’, Xin Dong Cheng has organized contemporary Chinese art exhibitions in Europe and has also organized exhibitions of international artists in China, in the aim of creating a cultural bridge between the Chinese contemporary art scene and the rest of the world. The most recent exhibition organized by him took place in May 2008 in the City of Technopolis Museum in Athens; 43 Chinese contemporary artists were presented to the Greek public, and the SOCART Exhibition in March 2007 in Moscow under the auspices of the Tretyakov National Gallery promoted a dialogue that was forbidden before between the greatest Russian and Chinese artists.
